In regards to patterns - anything stay on bootie wise - socks are not a good idea. In regards to sizes, this can be tough as a preemie can be anywhere in size from 1lb to 5 lbs. Usually a baby is over 4 pounds in order to be sent home and that is when handknits come in handy. Small sweaters, booties, bibs, blankets. Some have said that a preemie baby's head is about the size of a orange but this varies as well. Larger handknits will be put to use as preemies grow during the winter months. It's hard to find preemie clothes and they are quite expensive to buy. It's RSV season during the winter and preemies have many many doc appts those first few months. Handknits and blankets are the only way to keep them warm.

Stay on booties (Kristi says they really do stay on!)
